Welcome to Clark County
Situated along the mighty Columbia River, with the majestic Cascade Range as a backdrop, Clark County offers a mix of urban areas, historic landmarks, rural farmlands and deep forests. Named for Captain William Clark of Lewis and Clark Expedition fame, our county is one of the fastest growing regions in Washington state and the Portland, Oregon metropolitan region. Today, more than 525,000 people live in Clark County.
enjoy outdoor activities
The county has abundant urban and rural parks and natural areas for outdoor activities. North Clark County has hiking trails, rivers and waterfalls, and south and west Clark County have more than 40 miles of Columbia River frontage. Regional and local parks are numerous, with some designed to accommodate youth ball sports, adult ball sports, Master Gardener demonstration and horses. The county fairgrounds and event center host a variety of activities all year, including the award-winning Clark County Fair in early August.
the cradle of the pacific northwest
Dubbed the Cradle of the Pacific Northwest, the county is rich in history. Native peoples lived here long before the British established Fort Vancouver and the U.S. Army built Officers Row. Community and cultural events are celebrated year-around at historic sites and museums. Churches, service and fraternal organizations and social clubs are available throughout the county. The metropolitan amenities of Portland are minutes away across the Columbia River.
